About Us

University of Miami

Located in Southern Florida, the University of Miami has an ideal location for students who love the outdoors. With popular spots like South Beach, the Florida Keys, and Everglades National Park nearby, students have plenty of opportunities for water sports, hiking, and sunbathing. Downtown Miami, also near the school, is a thriving sports and cultural center.

On campus, more than 1,500 students are involved in approximately 30 fraternities and sororities. Students can also choose from more than 270 clubs & organizations to join. Freshman are not required to live on campus, but many opt to live in the school’s five residential colleges. These communities are modeled after housing at England’s Oxford and Cambridge universities which combine living and learning with group meals, poetry readings, sports, and more. For students who do not live in university housing, the Commuter Assistant Program pairs freshmen with an on-campus representative to help ease the transition into the college.

University of Miami Athletics competes in Division I of the NCAA, in the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference. UM sports teams are known as the Hurricanes. The school’s mascot is Sebastian the Ibis, a species of marsh bird that is known for weathering tropical storms.

College of Engineering

Since its founding in 1947, the University of Miami College of Engineering (CoE) has participated in extraordinary technological, industrial, and societal transformation. We have prepared leaders with the scientific and technical skills, ethical and moral grounding, to drive positive change in industry, government, health care, academia and allied sectors. From modest beginnings, we have grown into a six department College with a presence on all three (Coral Gables, Virigina Key, Downtown Miami) University campuses and degree programs at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels.

Through the confluence of industry partnership, specialized research, and a thriving South Florida entrepreneurial ecosystem, the CoE is well positioned to drive innovation in South Florida and in the rest of the world. We will achieve our goals through support from like-minded, amibtious individuals, our alumni, foundations, and industry partners who support our students, faculty and research as we embrace the challenge and promise of “Engineering Miami for the future”
