Specialized Inspection Capabilities

SEAWALLS & WATERFRONT STRUCTURES

Inspections of concrete seawalls, retaining walls, piers, and docks in marine environments. Evaluation includes above-water visual inspections, optional underwater assessments, and documentation of deterioration, corrosion, cracking, undermining, and movement.

METHODOLOGY: ASCE MOP 130, ACI 201.1R, ASTM NDT

BRIDGE LOAD TESTING

Live-load testing of bridges using GPS-based displacement tracking, strain gauges, and structural health monitoring tools. Applied to short-span or CFRP/GFRP-reinforced structures to evaluate in-field performance and compliance with load criteria.

METHODOLOGY: AASHTO bridge evaluation, ASTM D6272

DELIVERABLES

  • Real-time response plots
  • Compliance or proof load analysis
  • Report with recommendations for rating or retrofit

EXISTING CONCRETE STRUCTURES

Assessment of structural condition and serviceability of existing concrete structures, including aging buildings, garages, and infrastructure. Combines visual inspection, non-destructive testing (rebound hammer, ultrasonic), and optional sampling.

METHODOLOGY: ACI 364.1R, ACI 562, ASTM C42, ASTM C805, ASTM C876

  • Field condition report with defect classification
  • Maintenance or rehabilitation prioritization

ADVANCED MATERIAL SYSTEMS (FRP, HYBRID)

Evaluation of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) bars, pultruded profiles, and hybrid systems in structural applications. Includes pilot projects, manufacturer support, certification efforts, and field inspections of nonmetallic reinforcement.

METHODOLOGY: ACI 440.1R, ACI 440.6, ASTM D7957, ASTM D7290

IS YOUR INSPECTION BODY ACCREDITED?

Yes. The Structures and Materials Lab (SML) at the University of Miami is an ISO/IEC 17020:2012 accredited inspection body (IAS AA-829, Type C).

This accreditation confirms that our inspections are performed under a documented quality system with:
